Demilec contractor Tom Decker of Chicago Green Insulation is making news in Chicago this month for his efforts to give jobs to people often turned away by other employers - specifically those who’ve spent time behind bars for non-violent drug felonies and have successfully served their time and are firmly focused on getting back on their feet.

In fact, he’s made it part of his company’s philosophy and attributes part of his success to pairing business with helping fellow members of his community. The mission statement for Chicago Green Insulation is to make Chicago the safest and most energy efficient city in the world by 2027.

“Creating job opportunities for marginalized, non-violent drug felons who need a fresh start that they can feel good about is what motivates me,” Decker told WBEZ 91.5 Chicago’s Morning Shift. (Listen to the full interview here.)

Chicago Green Insulation provides installer jobs to non-violent ex-convicts who have trouble finding jobs elsewhere. Chicago Green Insulation is part of a growing sector of employers who don’t use non-violent criminal records to automatically prejudge potential employees looking for work.

In Chicago, Mayor Emanuel has often said that “the best anti-crime program is a job.”

While Tom has been in the foam insulation industry for a decade the first 20 years of his professional life were spent providing educational development programs for kids from the inner city and suburbs. Tom cares deeply about the services offered to families and businesses and this passion aligns closely with the Demilec mission of providing jobs for the surrounding community.

Tom has also served in various roles with Habitat for Humanity and many other not-for-profit organizations who share his commitment to making the world a better

place. Tom currently serves on the advisory board of Community Partners for Affordable Housing, Youth Build of Lake County, Sustainable Partners for Lake County and the Obama Presidential Center's Entrepreneurship Center.

Congratulations to Tom Decker on his success in pairing business with social good in the Chicago area. Demilec is proud to have you in our family!
